About
DR. NAZMA KABIR
I have a PhD in Medical Nutrition and have worked in the international development sector for most of my career. Over the course of 25 years I have listened to many colleagues talk about their aspirations, their personal and professional goals. What I noticed, despite many of us holding senior management positions, was that we were not 100% confident in leading our teams or performing the best we desired to. We were all highly experienced, qualified, and dedicated to our work, but had many negative or limiting beliefs. Many of us were not confident in making decisions, taking risks, and were thus not realising our full potential.
I was lucky to have sessions with a coach in my organisation, who helped improve my leadership and communication skills. The experience I had with this coach was phenomenal. Initially, I was sceptical about coaching as my coach was just listening to me and asking lots of questions without giving any advice. I started to realise after two or three sessions what the role of a coach really is, and how coaching is different from counselling, mentoring, and consulting. Being at the receiving end of coaching, I took full advantage of the opportunity by trusting my coach and by sharing my goals and aspirations. I realised that I had so many opportunities to explore, achieve and do new things, and that I hadn’t fully unlocked these potentials in my full time job. I attended The Coaching Academy’s 2-Day certificate course in May 2016, and I knew straight away it was what I had been looking for. I made the decision to change my career at that moment. The journey of a continuing professional development started then and I have never looked back.
